Muscles used

Main muscles

  • Triceps brachii: long, lateral and medial heads

Assisting & stabilizing muscles

  • Abdominal and back muscles (steady the torso and pelvis)
  • Forearm muscles (maintain grip and wrist alignment)

How to perform

  1. Attach a straight bar to the high pulley. Face the machine with feet about hip-width, knees soft and a closed overhand grip.
  2. Brace gently. Hold your upper arms by your sides with elbows bent, keeping the cable clear of your face and body.
  3. Exhale and extend your elbows, pressing the bar toward your thighs. Keep wrists aligned and elbows steady.
  4. Inhale and return slowly, keeping your upper arms still and controlling the stack.

Cautions

  • Check the cable, clip, bar and pins. Change attachments or settings only with the stack resting.
  • Avoid snapping into extension or slamming the stack. Stop for joint pain or dizziness.
